Does Testasterone affect ED

Post by consornedUser » Fri Oct 30, 2020 10:49 am

I am not a medical specialist but wanted to know because cant find answer online and have not yet been to a doctor due to Covid. I am having serious ED problems and my testasterone level is 337 ng/dl as far as i found out it is the level that would be normal for 80-90year old but im 30. Could this be affecting me? what could be the cause?

Normal range is suppose to be between 300 and 1000nd/gl. From what I gather from the WebMD article I just read low T doesn't seem to cause ED but can be one of the symptoms of having ED???

https://www.webmd.com/erectile-dysfunct ... function#1

ED can be caused by many things. Do you smoke, are you overweight, are you taking any medications that could cause ED(High blood pressure or depression meds), spinal cord injuries, alcohol, stress, anxiety, diabetes, mental distractions, blood flow, etc...

Are there any other things that you can think of that could be the cause?

I think getting testosterone boosters can help with ED.
46 years old happily married and living in Florida. I've had ED for over 20 years due to spinal cord injury. Viagra and Cialis no longer work for me but love using Trimix injections instead. I've also had to self cath for as long as I've had ED.

One of the major effects of low testosterone is low libido. Low libido can mimic or cause E.D. If you don't feel desirous, you will find it more difficult to get an erection.

In my opinion, yes, low T can cause E.D. Men who have been castrated by accident (happens a lot from land mines) often find erectile function is lost. Having said that, some WWII veterans retained erectile function without testes (which are the organ that produces testosterone). So, I think the relationship between testosterone levels and erectile function is connected, but loosely. I know that does not help much.

However, if you can get prescribed testosterone supplements and it restores erectile function, that might be an indicator for your particular case. However, getting your own testosterone production back up by whatever other means are effective is best. Testosterone supplements (or almost any hormone supplements) tend to shut down even further the organs responsible for maintaining production. It is probably inadvisable to shut down your testes unless a temporary shutdown is medically necessary for healing of some condition. Long-term shutdown can induce permanent changes.

Keep searching the internet, but ignore the advertisements and come-ons. Pay attention only to legitimate medical journals. e.g. The Journal of Andrology, the official journal of the American Society of Andrology. There are many such journals, peer-reviewed and scientificaly reliable.

If you have ED, you may think that testosterone treatment will help. Testosterone is a male sex hormone. After age 50, men's levels of testosterone slowly go down and ED becomes more common. But unless you have other symptoms of low testosterone, you should think twice about the treatment.

Bob1974 is correct. Pay attention also to the difference between total testosterone and free testosterone. I am not completely clear on what the importances are, but your Doctor should be able to address that.
